OmniDB is one such tool with which you can connect to several different databases - including PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL and others. 2ndQuadrant recently hosted a webinar on this very topic: Introduction to OmniDB. The webinar was presented by OmniDB co-founders and PostgreSQL consultants at 2ndQuadrant, Rafael Castro & William Ivanski. The recording of the webinar is now available here. Questions that Rafael and William couldn’t respond to during the live webinar have been answered below. Q1: There are other open source GUI tools around to manage PostgreSQL. Why are you investing efforts on a new tool? A1: When OmniDB was created we wanted a web tool, and not all available tools (more…)

Webinar: PostgreSQL is NOT your traditional SQL database [Follow Up]

2ndQuadrant, Liaqat's PlanetPostgreSQL
PostgreSQL is referred to as "The world’s most advanced open source database" - but what does PostgreSQL have that other open source relational databases don't?   2ndQuadrant recently hosted a webinar on this very topic: PostgreSQL is NOT your traditional SQL database, presented by Gülçin Yıldırım Jelínek, Cloud Services Manager at 2ndQuadrant. Webinar : Database Security in PostgreSQL [Follow Up]

Liaqat's PlanetPostgreSQL, Webinars
Database security is an increasingly critical topic for any business handling personal data. Data breach can have serious ramifications for an organization, especially if the proper security protocols are not in place. There are many ways to harden your database. As an example PostgreSQL addresses security using firewalls, encryption and authentication levels among other ways. 2ndQuadrant hosted a webinar on Database Security in PostgreSQL to highlight security concepts, features and architecture. The webinar was presented by Kirk Roybal, Principal Consultant at 2ndQuadrant - the recording is now available here. Some of the questions that Kirk responded to are listed below: Q1: What are your thoughts on performance of row-level security vs. doing that filtering via WHERE at (more…)

Power of Indexing in PostgreSQL [Webinar Follow-up]

Liaqat's PlanetPostgreSQL, Webinars
Given the massive size, complexity, and performance requirements of most databases, having an optimized database is critical for many organizations. A variety of different strategies are used for database performance enhancement - indexing being one of them. Since indexing is such a key component to database performance, 2ndQuadrant chose to highlight the power of indexing in the third instalment of their PostgreSQL webinar series. Power of Indexing in PostgreSQL was conducted by Pavan Deolasee, PostgreSQL contributor and developer at 2ndQuadrant. He covered various topics such as accessing data in PostgreSQL and types of indexes supported as well as their internals.
