Last month, I was at 2ndQuadrant booth at P2D2, an annual conference organized in Prague by local user group called CSPUG (Czech and Slovak PostgreSQL User Group). The conference was certainly a huge success and more than 200 people showed up! Meeting a lot of PostgreSQL enthusiasts in town, I wondered why there are no regular meetups in Prague. At the conference after-party, I started to question folks and learned that given a chance some of them would give talks and many more would be happy to attend. The initial reactions verified my observation and I felt motivated enough to start organizing meetups myself! Between the workshop track offered during the conference and the optional trainings offered in the two days following the conference, it looks like there will be something for everyone at this conference. Keynote speakers are always something everyone looks forward to at conferences.  We're particularly looking forward to seeing Dragos Dumitriu team up with our very own Gabriele Bartolini at the 5432...MeetUs! conference in Milan, Italy June 28 and 29. Dragos Dumitriu is an industry leader in the Agile community and renowned Kanban expert - helping to improve organisational efficiency in teams since 2004. 2ndQuadrant Italia has had a great friendship with Dragos since 2013 and will host him as a keynote speaker at the second edition of the 5432...MeetUs! conference. Dragos and Gabriele will discuss lean and Kanban in human enterprise environments, using 2ndQuadrant Italia as a live case study. Last week I was invited by the Dutch PostgreSQL User Group in Amsterdam to speak on PostgreSQL Administration Recipes. It was the first session of 2016, and the third since they started meeting last year. Using the simple format of a cooking recipe, I presented some techniques that a PostgreSQL DBA can use to solve recurring problems, for instance: change your password without leaving traces of the new password around; quickly estimate the number of rows in a table; see which parameters have a non-default setting; temporarily disable an index without dropping it. The last recipe was more philosophical: plan your backups, or better yet, plan your recovery!
